About the Film

Not Worth a Fig, which was shot in Mardin, is the first feature film of Selda Çiçek.

Özgü Namal and Derya Durmaz have landed the lead roles in the film, which tells the story of one day in the lives of a Mardin family. Seven years ago, the son of the family Celil (Halil Yomak) had stepped on a mine and died the next day he was discharged from military service. Feeling guilty for the death of Celil, her sister Delal (Makbule Sitare Akbaş) would commit a suicide. Heda (Özgü Namal) had married to her sister’s husband, Nazif (Barış Çakmak), and become a mother for Suham (Semanur Dönmez). Relying on the metaphor of a fig’s seed, the film questions the vanity and insignificance of the human life.

The film, which was shot in August and September 2008, will be released in cinemas in November 2009.
